The PostPath Server is a Linux-based enterprise-class email and collaboration server. It is the only drop-in, natively compatible alternative to Microsoft Exchange.
The PostPath Server provides live and incremental backup, and granular restore, via standard tools, file-system-level replication and redundancy with automated failover, and support for open systems and open innovation including standards-based archiving, filtering and AJAX webmail access.
The server's high performance (compared with Exchange) and ease-of-backup enables the use of low-cost storage, server consolidation, and significantly larger user data-stores so that PST-file use can be reduced or eliminated. Also, the server's flexible translation between Microsoft (ESTMP) and standard (SMTP) email transports, together with a highly configurable PostFix mail transport agent (MTA), enables the use of standards-based virus-filters and archiving systems, eliminating the need for Outlook journaling or proprietary APIs. See the Solutions page for more information on building a flexible, capable low cost lean infrastructure.

PostPath Webmail provides AJAX browser-based access to email, calendar, contacts and other collaboration data. The AJAX user-interface provides a fluent user interface, including helpful mouse-over hints and information. At the same time, PostPath Webmail is browser independent, working equally well with diverse browsers including Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari.
The PostPath Webmail server is a Linux-based LAMP-style server that can run on the same server as ppsd, or on a physically separate server. A common configuration is to place the WebMail server in the corporate DMZ (so it can accessed from anywhere on the Internet) while placing ppsd inside a corporate firewall.
The PostPath WebMail server is bundled with ppsd for no extra charge.

Keeping a complete archive of email has become increasingly important with the introduction of regulations such as the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP), and increasingly more difficult to achieve. Using Microsoft Exchange for this requires that Exchange Journaling be used, an inefficient and cumbersome solution which is also costly to implement and administer.
The PostPath Server Archive Edition aims to change that, by providing an affordable, easy to configure solution. The PostPath Server Archive Edition works with your PostPath Email and Collaboration Server to create an archived copy of every email message that goes through your business, without constant maintenance by your IT staff.
Due to the cost and complexity of maintaining an email archive, many smaller businesses simply choose to only perform backups, and hope that there will never be a business or legal reason to perform a search for given emails. However, backups have two problems from an archiving standpoint:
