The PostPath Server™ is a Linux-based enterprise-class email and collaboration server. It is the only drop-in alternative to Microsoft Exchange™
From a technical perspective, "drop-in" interoperability means that the PostPath Server™ supports the same network protocols as Exchange™ at the server level. The practical effect is that other software, whether from Microsoft or third-party vendors (including Outlook™, Active Directory™, ActiveSync™, other/existing Microsoft Exchange™ servers, and applications like Blackberry Enterprise Server™) interoperate with the PostPath Server just as they would with a Microsoft Exchange™ server.
This allows a PostPath Server to be "dropped in" to an existing environment without having to change anything already there. Existing Active Directory™ tools can be used to migrate users from Exchange to PostPath. There is no need to touch the users' desktops; users enjoy the full, rich feature set of Outlook™ without requiring any client-side plug-ins or connectors.
Because of PostPath's interoperability with Exchange™, PostPath and Exchange servers can coexist seamlessly in the same email infrastructure. Companies can conduct a controlled migration, moving a set number of users at a time from Exchage™ to PostPath. This migration is all done behind the scenes and is invisible to users, who can continue to access features such as shared calendars and tasks with users who have not yet made the migration.

The PostPath Server™ is built on Linux and uses an open standards-based architecture to enable the creation of a lean infrastructure. Lean infrastructure means infrastructure built with scalable, flexible, low-cost hardware and storage. The result is a flexible, reliable system that delivers high performance built on standard tools and processes that simplify tasks like backup and restore, replication and redundancy (read more about replication and redundancy), and virus filtering and archiving.

PostPath Server's support for open standards also brings direct end-user benefits, including webmail access via a browser-independent AJAX web-client that works as well with Internet Explorer™ as it does with Firefox™ and Safari™.
