The PostPath Server's™ MTA supports filtering by enabling MTA traffic to be "piped" through one or more filters prior to being sent and/or delivered.
Any email filter that is capable of filtering and forwarding SMTP traffic can be used with the PostPath Server™. By far the most common type of filter is an anti-virus filter, but it is also possible to use other kinds of filter such as policy based filters that might, for instance, block emails being sent to particular addresses.
Among those anti-virus filters commonly seen with the PostPath Server™ include: Symantec (e.g. "Symantec Mail Security for SMTP"), McAfee (e.g. "WebShield") and Trend Micro (e.g. the "InterScan" products). Further information is available at:

Other anti-virus filters tested by PostPath and seen to correctly filter viruses in series with the PostPath Server™ include: AntiVir, Avast, BitDefender, CAT-QuickHeal, ClamAV, eTrust-InoculateIT, eTrust-Vet, F-Prot, Ikarus, Kaspersky, NOD32v2, Sophos, VBA32.
Customers can also deploy appliance solutions such as Barracuda, Sonicwall, Tumbleweed, etc., or even make use of an external service such as Postini.
Just as for archiving, a filter can be configured on the PostPath Server™ simply through adding the filter's address to the list of filter-addresses on the server by either editing the configuration file or using the PostPath web management tool. Messages can be passed through the filter when they are outgoing, incoming, or both. It is also possible to distinguish between messages for local (i.e. on the same server) delivery, messages for internal delivery within the corporation, and messages for external delivery; if desired, filtering can be configured independently for local, internal and external messages.
